When Ghost In The Shell 2nd GIG was first released, the first thing that fans took notice (myself included) is the gorgeous costume Major Motoko Kusanagi had. I'm sure everyone can recall the eye-catching, fashionable leather shrug sported by the Major in the early episodes of the series. Well, anime is about to become reality as folks at AbbyShot Clothiers are re-producing the elegant leather shrug worn by Motoko.

The 2nd GIG Motoko Shrug was outfitted on AbbyShot staff members during DragonCon 2006 and was very well-received. Recently the company has taken a step further in developing a prototype Shrug and is currently seeking feedback and comments on the prototype, while refining the details for the final release. While I don't have any release dates or price estimate yet, please visit their blog post on this Shrug to leave your feedback / comments directly.

Personally I think the Shrug looks great! Probably it looks best on Motoko, but I can actually see it being worn for normal outings (besides Cosplay events) by ladies without feeling out of place (of course if you start dying your hair blue and carry a gun, that would totally blow it. Or if you're a man! :P). And made of leather too. Very nice. I'm keeping an eye on this, and would update on any progress or new information.
AbbyShot Clothiers specialises in creating screen-accurate, movie-inspired clothing (and in this case anime-inspired). They have quite a range of costumes and products for those who like movie-inspired clothing. Visit their website to see more. Or if you would like to follow the updates on the Motoko Shrug specifically, bookmark the Motoko category of their blog posts.
