The Valeria Files are a set of 2 novels authored by Tani Koshu and published by C.Novels Fantasia. Although Shirow's illustrations are very few in these two thick novels, they are interesting and showcases further the CG and 3D works Shirow seems to be keen about recently. The theme of the novels is Science Fiction, and focuses on explorations to the moon.
The story of Valeria File revolves around the main character Matsuyama Kou, more often identified just as 'MK' in the story. Then there is Valeria, the character that is the 'heart' of the book. Also the high-tech office lady, Letitia Rodriguez, an American-Latin character that Shirow likes to draw most. The rest of the cast is made up of UNSF Officials and members of the Hunting Falcon team.
The whole story is a blur right now, as I have not got the time to 'read' it, and the illustrations are minimal. For this novel, Shirow focuses more on landscape rather than characters. There is lavish use of 3D computer graphics to render the scenery of the city, vehicles, and moon surfaces. The characters however remain in 2D. Everything blends together nicely, with illustrations ranging from SD characters to complex spacesuits.
They are very well done, and its been a while since Shirow has done anything Sci-Fi, so its good to see that. Makes you crave for more Sci-Fi themed works from Shirow...
