In 1987, a time when no Shirow fan knows what a Cyberdelics is, there is a curious and interesting Dominion merchandise in Japan. In a metallic-etch patterned cardboard 'box' is The Dominion Club, a collection of very nice high quality 36 x 26 cm set of colour illustrations and manga pages done by Sensei Shirow for the Dominion Series. For the contents, I'll refer to the Intron Depot 1 Illustration book. The English Edition of Dominion Tank Police by Dark Horse / Studio Proteus doesn't have the page numbers labelled, so I'll leave the manga part out and just summarize them.
Illustration 01 - Leona 'Freeze' Dominion Portfolio front piece. ID1 page 87.
Supplement: The Dominion Files + Contents Menu. Altogether 8 printed pages (both sides) printed on a single piece and folded to the Portfolio size. Dominion File 1001 - Tank Police Group, Dominion File 1002 - Chief & Nam, Dominion File 1003 - Tsa & Lt Brenten, Dominion File 1004 - Al Cu Ad Solte, Dominion File 1005 - Leona Ozaki, Dominion File 1006 - Annapuma & Unipuma, Dominion File 1007 - Buak. (Note: these Dominion Files were part of the Seishinsha re-print of the Dominion collected edition, as well as the 3rd edition Dark Horse/ Studio Proteus version).
"I did this for the cover of a special portfolio of full-size Dominion art. The collection was packaged in a box 8mm deep. One part of the cover, which opened like a caramel wrapper, was transparent plastic, with Leona's face on the first plate peeping out through the window. I doff my hat to Hakusensha's Book Publishing Division for their clever design work." If Shirow Sensei himself is impressed with this collection, what more to say the Shirow fan? ^_^ A very attractive and outstanding piece of merchandise to compliment a Shirow collection or simply to admire.
